Alsace lies in close proximity to Germany and in fact has been under German ownership in the past. It is not surprising to find that Riesling is grown here, and that the style is more French than Germanic. This relatively dry Riesling has beautiful varietal character. It is light-bodied and crisp with pear, lemon zest, and apricot notes. It’s a great value. Wine Advocate (Stephan Reinhardt): 87 “From sandstone and granite soils, the 2014 Riesling from 30-year-old vines is a classic, dry Alsatian Riesling with brilliant fruit of lemon peels and yellow apples on the nose. Medium-bodied and elegant on the palate, this wine develops a very good intensity and a crisp minerality in its really stimulating finish. This is a very good Riesling for a small price. Today's Maison Pierre Sparr Successeurs has not much to do with the former Domaine Pierre Sparr. The once prestigious domaine went bankrupt and was sold to the Cave de Beblenheim in 2009 that now operates Pierre Sparr Successeurs independently from the coop. 'The 2014s overall display good acidity. Thanks to a meticulous sorting between the parcel and aging on fine lees, the wines developed a nice expression of fruit,’ says export manager François Fischer.'”
